UK Government Minister Grant Shapps visits Tarilian Laser Technologies
29 March 2011. Welwyn Garden City, UK. - Grant Shapps, the Welwyn Hatfield MP and UK Minister of State for Housing & Local Government visited Tarilian Laser Technologies (TLT) today to see the company's revolutionary technology at first hand, and learn about its potential and the prospects for business development in the area he represents.
TLT has developed a ground-breaking miniature optoelectronic sensor that can measure blood pressure more accurately and easily than any existing device. This makes it ideal for use in a range of medical conditions, sport and veterinary medicine. The sensor also has a wide range of other applications such as in the aerospace and automotive industries.
Mr Shapps met with TLT CEO Dr Sandeep Shah, Programme Director Nita Shah and Dr David Jefferys, a European medical device regulatory expert. He was given the background to TLT development since its founding in 2006 and a demonstration of the sensor's capability. Dr Shah hooked himself up to the sensor and showed his own heart waveform to Mr Shapps, who was surprised at the detailed beat-to-beat output that it generated.
Mr Shapps said, "After I got the opportunity to experience Tarilian’s sensor in operation, I was really impressed with this exciting high technology enterprise. I could not be more pleased that they are developing this technology right on our doorstep here in Welwyn Garden City. It is incredibly important that medical technology companies like Tarilian Laser Technologies can develop and expand locally, as their impact will be seen in jobs and economic prosperity for our future."
Dr Shah commented: "We were delighted with the visit from a key minister and the very kind appreciation he gave for TLT's success in creating a paradigm shift in the industry. We look forward to working with the UK government in the future and establishing a strong development and manufacturing presence within Hertfordshire."

About Tarilian Laser Technologies
Tarilian Laser Technologies (TLT) was established in 2006 by Dr Sandeep Shah, CEO, and Nita Shah, Programme Director, to further develop optical technology that they had discovered could measure blood pressure in a unique way. Following completion of the research programme the company filed a series of patents and set up an international R&D team to progress with the development of the sensor technology. TLT has already successfully completed its international FDA and MHRA pivotal regulatory clinical trial, working with global experts in clinical medicine and clinical trials, including from Barts Hospital, London and the William Harvey Institute, London. TLT is now completing the development and entering the manufacturing translation and scale-up programme for its highly innovative consumer blood pressure device that is a stand-alone cuff-less device and has unique features including superior accuracy and ease of use. TLT is expecting first year sales revenue of its TLT Sapphire innovative device to reach over 1 million units. Tarilian Laser Technologies is headquartered in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, UK.
